The Planning Group

The current planning group for dare2engage comprises:

Lat Blaylock

Lat is an RE adviser with RE today, and used to be a teacher. He enjoys his job because it allows him to make BBC broadcasts for school RE, write books of ideas for the classroom and travel a lot to meet thousands of teachers. He also enjoys cycling, family life, and running a kids group for 30 7–10s at his church. He likes to read R.S. Thomas and Garrison Keillor, but not soap operas or any stories with talking animals in them.

Toni Coulton

Toni’s background as a teacher in a large comprehensive school has meant she has tried to support and encourage this age group in their search for and walk with God. Whilst her own children were growing up she worked with the Boys’ Brigade as a national trainer and then took on 12 years working with UCCF. For eight of these she was the National Co-ordinator for FE and so most of her work was with the 16–19 year olds in the CUs. She is now helping to launch Festive, the new organisation supporting Christian Unions in FE Colleges.

Chris Curtis

Chris works for The Luton Churches Education Trust where, as part of a team, he works in local secondary schools and the sixth form college. He has been involved in the team’s programme of activities with 16–19’s including developing a lunchtime lecture programme and the use of film as a means of exploring culture and spirituality.

Emma Sergeant

Emma works for Scripture Union as Field Worker developing youth and schools work across the region and has responsibility within SU for developing thinking and practice in two areas of ministry: working with 16–19’s in education and working in social inclusion contexts. She was previously a schools worker in Surrey and Chaplain of Woking 6th Form college and was also employed as an RE and Drama teacher before moving into schools work. She is currently involved in working with 16–19’s by: facilitating RE and PSHE conference days, supporting CU groups, offering mentoring support and training, developing retreat opportunities and providing other extra curricula opportunities for spiritual development.

David Skinner

David is a Baptist Minister in Reading. Until recently Chair of the local Churches Together Schools Work Trust which is keen to nurture dynamic relationships between local schools and churches and to develop new strands of creative practice. He has worked with the 16–19 age group for the last ten years.
